Camp Fire Games have launched their Kickstarter campaign for War of Rights – a game about the American Civil War. War of Rights intends to be the most historically accurate game about the American Civil War to date, but at the same time wants to be fun to play.
With that being said, you will find yourself toting a musket most of the time, and it won’t be reloaded fast. Nope, the game intends to stick to its historical accuracy and simulate authentic reloading – players will have the choice of manually reloading their black powder rifles or stopping and taking a stab with their rusty bayonet. This along with realistic ballistics, and fouling – the more fouled the weapon becomes, the higher the chance there is of misfires or delayed fires -makes for a difficult battlefield experience. Back then they didn’t have it easy and neither will you.
The game will be powered by CRYENGINE so we already know the graphics should be nice – this also means a vast playing field. Each battlefield will be as close to a 1:1 scale to match the environment as it existed in the late 1800’s. The game will eventually feature two game modes Skirmishes and Historic Battles – the latter will be focused on large maps with online play with up to “several hundred” players, while the former will focus on smaller key historical locations.
Frankly, I think that this game looks really good. The team over at Camp Fire Games have taken on a challenge with hanging on to historical accurateness, – especially when it comes to the authentic reloading, as many players may not want to wait that long to reload. But I guess if they are that picky when it comes to reloading they should probably be playing something else anyways.
