Pebble, the Smartwatch maker behind the widely popular Pebble Smartwatch and Pebble Steel, have once again taken to Kickstarter to fund a brand new smartwatch, The Pebble Time.
The Pebble Time, is one of the most ambitious products to come from the company to date. It promises the same seven day battery life, a brand new OS, and the biggest and arguably most drastic change over the first generation Pebble Smartwatches, is the inclusion of Color E-ink, over the original Monochrome E-Ink displays.
The watch is approximately 20% thinner when compared to previous models and will come with new clasps and wrist bands that enhance the watch in bold and exciting ways. The new strap mechanism allows for accessory makers to attach sensors and mechanisms to enhance the Pebble Time’s usability.
The software has been designed by some of the designers behind WebOS and it shows. The software is aligned in an up and down UI, that is organized into past, present and future applications to make the OS overall more intuitive and fun with new control schemes and even voice control for some actions.
Being a Kickstater funded product, the Pebble Time, has reached over 10,000,000 dollars of its 500,000 dollar asking price with 27 days left to go until it’s over. It’s fitting that the next generation device was announced on the platform that birthed it. For those wondering when it will be commercially available, it will be released in May for $199 or $159 for early adopters.
